Why now

The 2027–2031 renewal cycle opens in seven months, and the public file is where renewals stall.

Every full-power radio and TV license comes up for renewal on its State's date. The application asks you to certify that every required document went into the public inspection file on time. Quarterly issues/programs lists are due by the 10th of the next quarter; a late one cannot be fixed, only disclosed. The FCC's base fine for public file violations is $10,000. In DA 23-1051 the FCC proposed $9,000 against a TV station for 12 late lists, and in several consent decrees it suspended the renewal until the licensee adopted a compliance plan.

How it works

Three steps. No upload, no install, no project.

1

Type your call sign

Airtally finds the station in the FCC's public data: facility ID, community of license, licensee and the license expiration the FCC has on record. Not found? Type the facility ID.

2

Your public file is read

Your browser reads the folder and file listings of your online public inspection file with each upload date, straight from publicfiles.fcc.gov. The documents themselves are not downloaded. Every list is matched to its quarter from the file name.

3

Fix, disclose, file

Upload what is missing now. For what was late, take the draft exhibit to your counsel. Then download the readiness report, the workbook, the deadline calendar for the rest of the term and the announcement plan for after you file.

What it checks

The deadlines of the whole license term, one by one.

  • Quarterly issues/programs lists: one per quarter of the term, due by the 10th day of the next quarter (73.3526(e)(11)–(12), 73.3527(e)(8)); a deadline on a weekend or federal holiday moves to the next business day (1.4(j)), and the FCC's shutdown extensions (2019, 2025) are applied; the earliest upload counts.
  • How late: the same buckets the FCC uses in its notices: one day to one month, one month to one year, more than a year, or not in the file at all.
  • Annual EEO public file reports: due every year on the anniversary of your renewal filing date, for station employment units with five or more full-time employees (73.2080(c)(6)).
  • Renewal dates: the term from the FCC record and the 73.1020 table, the filing date (73.3539), the petition-to-deny deadline (73.3584(f)), the biennial ownership reports (73.3615).
  • After you file: the six on-air announcements over four weeks the rule requires, in its own wording, and the date the certification must be in the file (73.3580).
  • Files it cannot place: a file in the lists folder that names no quarter is shown to you to assign, never guessed. Material in the FCC Investigations folder is flagged for counsel.
  • What it cannot know: whether each list's content is adequate, the political file, website postings, and children's TV reports filed in LMS.

The rules in detail: Quarterly issues/programs lists: deadlines, late uploads and your renewal.

What you get

Real output from the made-up WJZX-FM sample.

A Virginia FM station, license to Oct 1, 2027, renewal due Jun 1, 2027. Of its 29 quarterly lists due so far, 25 went in on time, 3 late (1 by days, 1 by weeks, 1 by more than a year) and 1 is not in the file; one EEO report was late and one is missing. Computed by the same engine the app uses.

FAQ

Questions general managers, engineers and counsel ask

Is Airtally from the FCC?

No. It is independent software that reads the FCC's public data and applies the published rules (47 CFR 73.1020, 73.3526, 73.3527, 73.2080, 73.3539, 73.3580, 73.3584, 73.3615 and 1.4(j)). Every time it opens it reproduces 21 FCC examples and records, including the FCC's own count in NAL DA 23-1051 (7 lists more than a year late, 4 between a month and a year, 1 within a month): 21/21 today.

Do you download our documents?

No. Airtally reads the folder and file listings of your public file (file names and upload dates), the same public data anyone sees on publicfiles.fcc.gov. Your browser asks the FCC directly; the station search goes through our server because the FCC's search service does not allow browser requests. The check runs in your browser and the results are never sent to us.

How does it know which quarter a file covers?

From the file name: "Q1 2026", "1st Quarter 2026", "First Quarter Public Affairs 2021", "Jan–Mar 2025", and the year folder it sits in. A file that names a quarter but no year is placed in the latest quarter that ended before its upload. A file that names no quarter is shown to you to assign; it is never guessed.

What does "Disclose" mean?

A list uploaded after its deadline stays late: the renewal application asks you to certify that the public file was complete at the appropriate times, so late documents are explained in an exhibit. Airtally drafts that exhibit with the facts and dates; your counsel completes it.

We have fewer than five full-time employees.

Then your station employment unit does not prepare annual EEO public file reports (73.2080). Set it in step 2 and the EEO check is switched off. The quarterly lists still apply.

Noncommercial and TV stations?

Yes. Noncommercial educational stations follow 73.3527 (the same quarterly lists, unless exempt), TV stations 73.3526(e)(11). Children's TV programming reports are filed in LMS and are not checked.

We own a cluster, or we are counsel for many stations.

The Group license covers up to 12 stations and checks all call signs in one run; Counsel covers any number. Each station gets its own report, exhibit and calendar, and the group CSV puts them side by side.

What if it does not work for our station?

Run the free check first: every quarter, report and date shows on screen. If you buy and it still does not work for you, ask within 14 days for a full refund.

Does the license renew automatically?

No. Each license is one payment for 12 months. Nothing renews or charges again; when it ends, the free check keeps working and you can buy another year if you need it for the next filing.

Who makes Airtally?

Atesen Software, an independent software maker run by Samet Ateşen in Sakarya, Türkiye. It builds tools that work from official public data for compliance deadlines, such as Bidtally for E-rate bid evaluations and Linewarden for EPA lead service line inventories. Paddle.com handles payment, invoices and tax as merchant of record; support is by email at support@atesensoftware.com, answered the same business day.
